Natural Awakenings Business Profile on Kate Mansfield Acupuncture

Manhattan Acupuncturist Kate Mansfield Helps Clients Become their Best Selves

Kate Mansfield, founder of Kate Mansfield Acupuncture with two locations in Manhattan, didn’t set out to establish a career in the healing arts. However, when this former environmental architect, originally from the UK, sought relief from the hectic pace of the architectural world, she found it in practicing—and later teaching—tai chi chuan, an ancient system of movement that promotes better health and well-being. “I loved how tai chi made me feel more balanced, grounded and better able to deal with stressful situations,” she explains. “What if I could feel like this all the time? Retraining as an acupuncturist offered just that. And, it has not disappointed.”

Mansfield, who established her acupuncture practice in 2017, thoroughly enjoys helping others achieve similar results. Every Kate Mansfield Acupuncture client receives a full hour of undivided attention and care during their visit—with their initial consultation lasting 90 minutes. “It’s important to be able to have all that time to truly understand what is happening with my client’s health,” says this passionate practitioner, who uses her deep understanding of the Five Element acupuncture system to develop a customized treatment plan for each individual. “I also have a knack for putting even the most needle-phobic people at ease,” she assures.

According to Mansfield, people seek acupuncture care for a wide variety of reasons. “In fact, it can sometimes be difficult to know why you might come for a treatment. How can those tiny needles really make a difference in how you feel?” she reflects. “Whatever your reasons for seeking acupuncture, it’s likely that you will sleep better, have more energy, and feel more positive—even if those weren’t things you thought needed improving.”

“One of the things I love most about acupuncture, and in particular Five Element acupuncture, is that it has the potential to help us return to our authentic selves, giving us the strength to deal with life better,” explains Mansfield. “Life can be challenging, and acupuncture can help you be the best version of yourself.”

Mansfield reveals that most acupuncturists practice what is known as TCM or Traditional Chinese Medicine. Although she uses the same acupuncture points, Five Element acupuncture utilizes a different method of diagnosing and treating disease or imbalance, and the results can be profound and long-lasting. “In Five Element acupuncture, the minimum number of acupuncture points is used for the maximum effect. In addition, needles are inserted, turned and then removed. They’re not left in, and not manipulated,” shares Mansfield. “Having said that, the first treatment you will receive involves inserting needles very superficially in specific points on your back and leaving them in for 10 to 20 minutes.” Mansfield adds that this provides a means for the body to release ‘aggressive energy.’ “It helps clear anything out of your system that could hinder your recovery. Most people report feeling lighter and sleeping better afterwards.”

Mansfield realizes that signing up for a series of treatments can feel like a big commitment. That’s why she offers free 15-minute, no-obligation consultations to help potential acupuncture patients decide if it is worth investing their time and money in a series of treatments. “I might not be the right solution for your needs, and if that’s the case, I’ll tell you that,” she says. “Where possible, I’ll offer alternative options for seeking support.”

For those who find acupuncture to be the right path, Mansfield offers bespoke treatments based on a comprehensive Five Element diagnosis. “A minimum of three to five treatments is recommended for optimum results. Though, chronic health conditions can sometimes take longer to resolve,” she notes. “Additionally, monthly ‘maintenance’ treatments—to support your ongoing health and well-being—are highly recommended.”

Kate Mansfield loves what she does and thinks others will too. Her future plans include a dream ‘architect designed’ clinic space. “Fortunately, I have the skills to do this, so at some point, it’s going to happen!”

Kate Mansfield is fully licensed to practice acupuncture in New York State. She currently has clinic spaces in the West Village and Union Square. Locations: Relax, 716 Greenwich St., West Village and Theraspace, 41 Union Square West.
