Greenport-based Aldo’s Coffee Company recently announced the retirement of its founder Aldo Maiorana, and the continuation of the local favorite through a group of four friends and their young families who live on the East End of Long Island.

Celebrating 36 years of dedication and growth to Aldo’s Coffee Company, Aldo Maiorana retired to spend time with family and visit his origins in Sicily. “Everything has a beginning, the seed blooms, the flower goes to seed and blooms again. The time has come for a new crew. To my friends there is no end, but continuity, with much respect and devotion,” says Maiorana.

Located on the North Fork of Long Island, New York, the shop will be helmed by four local friends, Joshua Sommer, Taylor Klemm, Scott Rose, and Tora Matsuoka, who plan on honoring the founder’s commitment to quality, small-batch roasting, year-round.

“What Aldo created here is so special and unique—we want to protect, continue and grow that. “We’re committed to Aldo’s unique roasting style and coffee-making techniques,” affirms Aldo’s Coffee Company partner, Josh Sommer. “We’re honored to carry on Aldo’s legacy and will continue to bring his notable and distinguished coffee to our customers while expanding on some of the offerings. Our goal is to support local and keep the heart of what makes this great town beating.”

New offerings include the recently introduced loyalty program to show appreciation for regular customers. The premise is that every dollar spent converts into in-store discounts. The group will slowly add more benefits based on feedback. 

As part of the effort to promote and support other local businesses, patrons can now find salads by The Lettuce Lady from Shelter Island. Local artists will also be invited to hold evening gallery events. “Aldo is spending the next couple of months working with us to share and teach his techniques, processes and traditions. After which, he will continue his new journey with his family,” says Sommer.
