Natural Awakenings NYC & Long Island

Adventures Abound at Frost Valley YMCA

During Frost Valley YMCA’s Adventure Programs, campers choose from action-based activities, service-oriented trips (like working with Habitat for Humanity), and rugged excursions to beautiful and challenging locations around the United States. These empowering experiences, led by highly trained counselors, teach leadership and survival skills. From these experiences, campers find confidence and strength to last a lifetime.

Adventure Village, our introductory program for the adventurous at heart, combines the best of traditional Overnight Camp and Adventure Trips. Campers choose from multiple adventure-based activities like climbing the tower, all-day hikes, orienteering, mountain boarding, zip-lining and honing outdoor survival skills. They also join main camp for traditional camp activities.

Adventure Village One Week Try-It

(Grades 6-8) August 11-16

ADVENTURE TRIPS

Advanced trips, the top tier of the adventure program, are month-long journeys to the beautiful backcountry regions of the Northeast. Campers challenge themselves as they work together to set goals and build routes through the wilderness. Nothing is comparable to the life lessons and leadership skills that an Advanced trip can offer a young camper.

Adirondack Mountain Summit Multipitch

(Grades 10-12) June 30-July 26

This is the most advanced wilderness trip. Campers summit stunning Adirondacks peaks and climb the east coast’s highest cliff-face. The trip provides orienteering and survival skills as well as hands-on learning for setting up gear, scouting and climbing safely, and learning to become responsible outdoor enthusiasts for life.

SERVICE TRIPS

Frost Valley YMCA is dedicated to service and the idea that to live a meaningful and healthy life one should give back to their community. The service trips at Frost Valley YMCA are focused on making an impact on the community. Campers who participate in our service trips will receive a signed letter validating at least 35 hours of accredited service per trip.

Habitat for Humanity – Catskills

(Grades 9-12, min. age 14) Available Sessions 1, 3 & 4

Campers work with Habitat for Humanity Catskills to gain community service hours, make new friends, acquire new skills, and “give back.” Helping to rebuild the Catskills from the devastating effects of Hurricane Irene, campers earn up to 35 volunteer service hours. They will also enjoy the beauty of the Catskill Mountains by climbing in the nearby Mohonk Preserve and biking in the esteemed Minnewaska State Park.

Maine Trail Builders

(Grades 9-12) Available Session 2

Campers explore the beautiful area of Acadia, Maine, as they help maintain trails and complete service work with the National Park Service. Digging in the dirt, trimming trees and doing various other projects around the park, they will earn up to 35 hours of community service. On days off, they’ll climb cliffs above the ocean and bike the carriage roads.

Rocks and Ropes

(Grades 6-8) June 30-July 5

Tired of people telling you to stop climbing on everything? You are just the person we’ve been looking for! Join us on a week-long climbing session that includes day climbs in the world-famous “Gunks” of New York. You will work on climbing techniques while having the time of your life with a group of friends who love climbing as much as you do.

White Mountain Kayak & Climb

(Grades 9-12) Available Session 1& 3

Travel to the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire and learn technical kayaking skills with experienced instructors. We will also climb some of the best cliffs on the east coast at North Conway.
