Tibetan Sleep and Dream Yoga Teacher Comes to the Berkshires
Eastover Estate and Retreat Center in Lenox, Massachusetts, will be the summer launching pad for oneirnauts (dream travelers), as the foremost American teacher of Tibetan Sleep and Dream Yoga, Andrew Holecek, will teach a 10-day workshop there in July. It will be Holecek’s only East Coast workshop this year, says Eastover co-founder Yingxing Wang.
The workshop will be divided into two parts, which can be taken separately or together: The Art of Lucid Dreaming, July 5-7, and Dream Yoga, July 8-14. Lucid dreaming, which developed over thousands of years in the East and was recently augmented with sophisticated techniques from the West, offers “unparalleled opportunities for mental, physical and spiritual growth,” Holecek says. His workshop will explore the science behind lucidity, how to induce lucid dreams, what to do with them, and how to transcend common obstacles to lucid dreaming. He will explain how lucid dreaming leads to lucid living, and how this ancient practice can change the brain, facilitate healing, improve relationships, heighten performance and invite spiritual awakening.
Participants will learn daytime and nighttime practices to induce lucidity, using Eastern and Western techniques for developing dream incubation and increasing dream recall. They will also learn to work with technology and apps designed to wake them up in their dreams. Holecek says lucid dreaming can transform insomnia, reduce nightmares and ease other sleep disorders, and create a foundation for optimal sleep hygiene.
