Another Leap Forward in Dental Healing: Full Arch Implants

Submitted by Integrative Dental Specialists

Maintaining the teeth that you were born with should always be the focus of the patient and the dentist. “Unfortunately, sometimes teeth are so damaged that extractions are the only viable option,” says Dr. Jeffrey Etess, founder of Integrative Dental Specialists.  “In times past, dentures were the only choice for patients with which to replace their smile. Unknown to most patients, dentures only provide less than 10 percent of the biting efficiency of natural teeth. Even more troubling, dentures move around in the mouth and must be removed consistently to be cleaned.”

Remaining on the cutting edge of the newest dental advancements is a full-time task and a top priority for Dr. Etess, who has been a pioneer in the field of dental implants for over 22 years. “Full arch implant surgery is a dental procedure that involves the replacement of all the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw with dental implants,” he says. “This procedure is also commonly known as the All-on-X implant procedure.”

During the full arch implant surgery, Dr. Etess places four or more dental implants into the jawbone, which act as the foundation for a new set of prosthetic teeth. These dental implants are made of titanium alloy, zirconium or a hybrid of titanium and zirconium. “The type of implant used is based on the needs and desire of the patient to choose the most biocompatible material that fuses with the jawbone to create a stable foundation for the natural appearing and functioning prosthetic teeth,” he explains.

The full arch implant surgery typically involves a series of steps including a comprehensive dental and medical evaluation along with a customized treatment plan based on the patient’s individual needs and goals. “With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last for many decades and provide patients with a natural-looking and functional set of teeth that can significantly improve their quality of life,” emphasizes Dr. Etess.
