Wisdom from a Buddhist Nun on Living Beyond Fear
In a time when fear and anxiety are at an all-time high, Kadampa Meditation Center New York City presents a special public talk, A Life Beyond Fear, led by internationally renowned Buddhist nun Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong. The event takes place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, at The Town Hall Theater in New York City.
“Fear is one of the most painful emotions we experience,” says Simone Barker, Education Program Coordinator at Kadampa Meditation Center. “In Buddhism we learn how to transform our unsettling emotions such as fear and anxiety through the practice of meditation which teaches us how to become friends with our mind.”
Rooted in Buddha’s teachings, the event will explore the idea that fear does not stem from external events, but rather from how the mind responds to them. Attendees will be introduced to meditation techniques—beginning with simple breathing practices—that help reconnect with the mind’s naturally peaceful state. By shifting identification away from fear and anxiety, and toward inner calm, individuals can begin to build a new, more empowered relationship with their thoughts and emotions. Attendees will learn practical methods to release agitating thoughts and settle into a space of clarity and happiness—no matter what life brings.
Cost: Tickets from $50. Location: The Town Hall Theater, 123 W. 43rd St., NYC. For more information, call 212-924-6706 or visit MeditationInNewYork.org/a-life-beyond-fear.
