Introducing “Herbs as are Nature’s Medicine” — A New Monthly Column with Zakiyyah Madyun, C.H. (Certified Herbalist)
Natural Healing at Our Fingertips
Natural healing has always been part of the human story—and for Zakiyyah Madyun, a certified herbal educator and practitioner, it’s a lifelong calling. As the founder of Sacred Healing 7 Herb Center, established in 1985, Zakiyyah brings over four decades of experience in herbal and essential oil medicine, energy healing, and holistic wellness education.
With deep roots in traditional plant-based remedies and naturopathic principles, Zakiyyah has dedicated her life to studying and teaching how the body’s innate wisdom can be supported and restored through holistic approaches. She often states: “The body already knows how to heal itself, we just have to relearn how to let it.” Her work empowers individuals to take an active role in their health, often helping them reduce dependence on conventional interventions through thoughtful, nature-based support.

In this new monthly column, Herbs are Nature’s Medicine, she offers time-honored remedies, seasonal tips, and practical ways to support body, mind and spirit. Whether readers are navigating everyday imbalances, confronting serious health challenges, or simply seeking to live more vibrantly, Zakiyyah offers a grounded, compassionate voice—and decades of insight—to guide the way.
“Throughout history, cultures the world-over have been foraging the earth for plant medicines to nourish, heal and sustain their communities. We have gotten so far away from ‘living in rhythm with the earth’ that we often need to relearn what our ancestors knew intuitively—that red raspberry can support a healthy pregnancy, dandelion can ease digestive upset, and plantain can relieve pain. A place in every home that is bursting with healing spices (basil, rosemary, sage, parsley) and foods, is the kitchen. These are some of the most potent plant medicines at our fingertips, that we try to kill off as weeds,” she explains.
“Through this column, I invite you to reconnect with the healing wisdom of the Earth and remember that nature still holds the keys to lasting well-being,” she adds.
