Balancing the Multifaceted Dimensions of our Energy Bodies

 By Zakiyyah Madyun

One of the greatest challenges in today’s fast-paced lifestyles is balancing our energy. We’ve gotten so far away from ‘living in rhythm with the universe’ that we forget our body already knows how to heal itself. The First Law states energy cannot be created or destroyed, it only changes form. Nature offers many intrinsic ways to help us manage the four main dimensions of our energy—the physical, emotional, mental and energetic/spiritual facets. Here are a few ways to reconnect with the healing wisdom of the Earth.

The chakras, our body’s innate energy system, play a major role in our body’s ability to manage energy.

Physical pains can be eased with regular use of sage, mugwort and spikenard essential oils (EOs). Applied topically, EOs can help move stagnant energy and reduce recurring pains.

Emotional and stress-related imbalances can begin to shift with meditation. Sitting quietly with yourself for 10-15 minutes daily (for beginners), helps recalibrate how you respond to negativity or stress. Though EOs can support meditative transformation, developing this habit is the best first step. The application of tarragon or marjoram EOs (in a carrier oil) applied to the neck and shoulders, brings immediate relief of tension pain from stress.

Mental fatigue and diminished memory can be improved through daily inhalations of EOs, particularly rosemary verbenone, known to elevate mood, enhance short-term memory, and clear the mind.

Energetic/spiritual balance can be restored with a few simple lifestyle changes. Drinking a full glass of water within the first 20 minutes of waking (and another within the next hour) helps flush the system of yesterday’s waste, unhealthy thoughts, and negative experiences. Just as the Earth cleanses daily (between 4 and 6 a.m.), if we rise with mild stretches and the intake of purifying water, we can begin to raise our energy.
