The Healing Power of Music

That was the spirit at this year’s Music Has Power Symposium & Awards, hosted by the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF) on November 21 at The Glasshouse in New York City. The event brought together leaders in neuroscience, mental health, and the healing arts to explore how music supports emotional well-being and restores inner balance.

This year’s theme, “The Neuroscience of Music and Emotions,” invited attendees to discover how musical experiences can shift mood, reduce stress, and support mental health across the lifespan. Researchers shared compelling new insights into how rhythm, melody and memory interact within the brain, revealing why music can calm anxiety, unlock emotion and reconnect people living with neurocognitive conditions to themselves and others.

A highlight of the event was the Music Has Power Award, presented to artist, producer and wellness advocate Maejor, who also closed the day with an immersive healing sound session. His work at the intersection of music, healing and mental health resonated deeply with attendees.

The Symposium reflects IMNF’s long-standing mission to advance the therapeutic use of music across healthcare settings and communities. “We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us,” shares Director of Programming, Justin Russo. “The conversations sparked this year will continue to shape how music helps heal mind, body and spirit.”
