Nourish to Flourish with Herbs and Essential Oils
by Zakiyyah Madyun, C.H.
Considering the global changes we’ve faced post-COVID, we have been forced to rely on our resilience and adaptability in an effort to not only survive, but to ‘nourish and flourish.’ Resilience and adaptability are key skills that everyone needs to enhance to thrive in these world-wide shifts. To support you in navigating viable holistic alternatives, Sacred Healing 7 Herb Center’s Integrative Master Course offers training to help you identify the source of illness and health imbalances in addition to providing in-depth knowledge on how to utilize herbs and essential oils (EOs) that assist in revitalizing and nourishing the body’s systems.
Understanding the healing aspect of herbs and EOs, and how to use various herb parts (leaves, roots, bark, etc.) that serve various organs and systems (e.g., liver, kidneys, lungs, nervous, and lymphatic systems), is a core aspect of the course content. For EOs, the course expands on external and internal uses and various application methods, employing Robert Tisserand’s essential oil safety guidelines.
Each group of herbs that serves one set of organs or system (e.g., urinary system) can serve to nourish that system and stimulate or fortify the next system (liver/gallbladder) in the Nurturing (Shen) Cycle of the Five Element System in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). For example, the herbs rehmania, buchu and uva ursi leaves, horsetail and fu ling will serve to restore health, harmony and balance to the kidneys and bladder, while nourishing the organs of the liver/gallbladder, and simultaneously control any excess heat or imbalances in the heart/small intestines (circulatory system) (see diagram).
"Nourish to Flourish" is a holistic philosophy I embrace to provide the essential physical, mental and nutritional support (nourish) for individuals to thrive, grow and blossom (flourish). In addition, I utilize several healing modalities, such as reflexology, meridian therapy and the healing systems of Ayurveda and the Chinese 5 Element systems, to connect healthy eating, self-care and community support to improve your well-being.
