Most Vision Loss Is Preventable
The Eye Summit 2026 brought together more than 20 global experts in ophthalmology, optometry, neurology, functional medicine and integrative health for a five-day virtual event focused on preventing vision loss and optimizing long-term eye and brain health.
A major theme throughout the Summit was that much of vision loss is preventable or treatable when identified early. Experts emphasized the importance of nutrition, lifestyle medicine, reducing inflammation and early detection in preserving eyesight and cognitive function as we age.
Hosted by neuro-ophthalmologist Dr. Rani (Rudrani) Banik, MD, during Healthy Vision Month, the Summit attracted over 20,000 participants from 99 countries. Sessions featured evidence-based discussions on macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye disease, migraine, concussion-related vision problems, the gut–eye axis, acupuncture and emerging therapies such as photobiomodulation and stem cell therapies.
“The goal of The Eye Summit is to empower people with practical, science-based strategies they can apply in everyday life to protect their precious vision for life,” says Banik.
Although the live event has concluded, individuals can still register to access Day 1 presentations free of charge and learn foundational strategies for protecting vision and supporting lifelong eye health.
