Alexander Technique Community Honors Legacy of Rivka Cohen
The Alexander Technique community is honoring the life and legacy of Rivka Cohen, a world-renowned teacher who influenced generations of practitioners and whose work continues through her students, including New York-based Alexander Technique teacher Jean McClelland.
Cohen, known as "Rika," passed away on February 15. According to the Israel Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique, she was among the profession's most respected senior teachers. Her training began in 1961 and continued with many renowned teachers. In 1980, she founded a teacher-training school in Israel, training generations of teachers and students.
"Rika was a brilliant, demanding and powerful teacher with a hugely generous heart," says McClelland. "She lives on every day in my words and in my hands." McClelland expressed gratitude for the heartfelt tributes from colleagues and students following Cohen's passing. The Israel Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique stated that Cohen's professional and human legacy will continue to accompany teachers and students worldwide.
