Renowned Voice Teacher Leads Six-Session Workshop at Open Center

Jean McClelland, a noted music theater performer and renowned teacher of voice, will offer a six-session workshop, Awakening Your True Voice, at the New York Open Center. Sessions will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on consecutive Mondays between November 5 and December 10, with a free introductory class at 6 p.m. on October 29. With more than 40 years’ experience as a performer and teacher, McClelland has helped thousands of students free their bodies, strengthen their breathing and uncover the natural beauty of their voices. “Everyone possesses a powerful, natural voice that reveals who he or she truly is,” she says. “It’s a voice that’s spontaneous and free, open and expressive, and one we discover when we are completely at ease and comfortable in our surroundings. But sometimes fear and tension can restrict the natural flow of breath, and our voice becomes strained and forced.” By integrating the Alexander Technique and the breath work of Carl Stough into her teaching, McClelland gives her students lifelong tools to uncover their true voice. “The powerful and supportive group energy in my classes encourages self-consciousness to dissolve and your natural voice to emerge,” she says. “Exercises and songs will increase your mental and physical awareness, improve body alignment, stimulate breathing coordination and help you discover the joy of singing. Even if you have never sung before, you will find that miracles happen in my classes.” Location: 22 E. 30th St. For more information including costs, visit JeanMcClellandVoice.com. See ad page 10.
