Practitioner Profile: Monika Harczuk, Pilates and Yoga InstructorDec 02, 2022 ● By Michael Lehrman
Monika Harczuk is a Pilates instructor with more than 17 years of teaching experience, certified in the classical Romana’s Pilates method. She also is an Iyengar yoga teacher. She specializes in mindful movement and is particularly passionate about back care having recovered from a bad back accident herself.
Born in Gdańsk, Poland, Harczuk moved to Berlin, Germany, when she was 6. She had no idea how her life would turn out when she grew up, but she knew that she wanted to be independent and improve her quality of life. As a child and teenager, Harczuk was rather sedentary and not at all athletic. In her early 20s, she signed up for a step class at a gym; the music was pumping, and she could feel the physical movement uplifting her and her mood. A few years later, she discovered Brooke Siler’s Pilates book and was influenced by seeing another tall woman like herself being strong and graceful as a Pilates teacher in New York. This gave her the confidence to follow the same path.
Harczuk has worked for the best studios and teachers in New York City, and she has successfully run her own business since 2009. She considers herself fortunate to share the wholesome practices that connect her with her body, mind and breath with her students. “Watching my Pilates and yoga students get stronger with time always feels exciting,” she says, also stating that it is rewarding “when students have a certain discomfort or physical issue and feel better right after the session.”
Harczuk also hosts week-long retreats at different destinations worldwide. Her retreats offer a mix of different holistic modalities and techniques in one vacation. “I love seeing the participants laughing, having a good time and seeing their bodies and minds relax and awaken over a week,” she says.
Bringing positivity, creativity and enthusiasm to everything she does, Harczuk helps people find their equilibrium and access their physical power and mental clarity so they can live their life to its fullest potential.
