The Amazing Benefits of a Facial

By Jan Goldstoff

Statistics show that 30 percent of Americans set aside time for self-care; and on average an American spends 65 minutes per week on self-care—that’s less than 10 minutes a day!

For both young and old men and women, having a daily skin routine helps a person to keep their skin healthy and feel more confident and content. Having beautiful skin is a goal worth pursuing.

When you have a beautiful smile, and you feel happy you reflect an “inner glow.”  With the turn of the season, there’s no better time to take a break and pamper yourself with a facial.

You will look better, you will feel better, and you deserve it! If you only take 15 seconds a day on self-care now is the time to change that to achieve and maintain healthier skin. In addition to beauty care, meditation, walking in a park, and fitness training are just a few of the ways to incorporate more self-care.

I’ve been going for facials every few months for the last 10 years and in that time my skin has improved dramatically. My facialist said I have the skin of someone 20 years younger. No one guesses my true age. You learn which products to use and the importance of staying hydrated and drinking several glasses of water each day.

Recently, I had a facial with skilled aesthetician Gina Nicoletti, at the wonderful Federico Salon in New York City. After our session, my skin felt refreshed, soft and smooth. I felt rejuvenated and ready to take on the world. Plus, there’s nothing more gratifying than receiving compliments of “radiant” skin.

You’re never too young or old to start learning about good skincare. Everyone would benefit from a quarterly facial to complement the change of the season. Facials help you to not only look younger but are most important for maintaining healthy skin and help prevent you from getting wrinkles.

An average facial lasts an hour and includes cleansing, exfoliation, hydration and moisturizing, along with a light massage. The final effect is that you feel wonderful and relaxed—and your skin looks beautiful! Your skin specialist will also discuss a daily skin routine to address your particular skin concerns to maintain overall skin health.

Benefits of facials include:

  • Deep cleaning and detoxifying the skin.

  • Strengthening the skin barrier to protect against acne and free radicals.

  • Exfoliating dead skin cells to brighten the skin.

  • Opening pores to allow better product absorption.

  • Using targeted ingredients to even out skin tone.

  • Providing deep hydration for softer skin.

  • Plumping the skin to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

  • Boosting circulation for glowing skin.

Romania-born Gina Nicoletti has been giving facials for over 40 years at salons in New York City. Trained at the Dr. Aslan Institute of Beauty and Skin, she has worked at Saks Fifth Avenue and Red Door Salons and past celebrity clients include Jackie Kennedy, Phyllis George and Diane Sawyer.
